South Church Cares 2021
Let the Giving Begin!
In March, South Church Cares authorized continuing local support to six area food pantries: Village of Mt Prospect, Des Plaines Food Pantry, Elk Grove Township, Maine Township, Northfield Township, and Wheeling Township. Our communities continue to struggle in the face of the pandemic and we want to help provide food security for all.
The committee also voted to support the Jen School (Maryville Academy) garden. This money supports vegetable garden beds and fruit trees. Produce helps to feed students at the school and provides fresh food to local food pantries.
Internationally, funds were allocated to Doctors without Borders to help in continuing crises throughout the world. This volunteer organization goes to countries where government agencies cannot gain entrance and saves hundreds of lives every year.
Openlands. This organization buys, restores, and maintains prairies and wetlands in northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin. Donation into the general operating fund-$5000.00
Chicago Region Tree Initiative. Plants trees in underserved areas of Chicago and suburbs, restoring the tree canopy in the region. Donation earmarked to plant and maintain 15 trees on the campus of Hillcrest High School-$4500.00
Americares. International aid organization. Donation earmarked for aid to India in its battle against the corona virus-$2500.00
Our Origin Story
A few years ago our church made a major decision.
The Mission Board/Christian Service has been reimagined as South Church Cares.
They are responsible for overseeing how South Church
distributes funds to charities and causes.
South Church Cares has also been given the responsibility
to distribute up to $50,000 each year
to charities and causes.
They meet throughout the year deciding how to fulfill this mission.
